What's Inside the Guide

Step-by-step Itineraries

Dear Family Travelers,

In this guide you'll find the most fun and engaging ways to explore Philly — things to see and experience that will delight your kids, but that you’ll actually love, too. You’ll find the kid-friendly (or kid-tolerant!) restaurants that show off the city’s vibrant dining scene, plus plenty of parks and green spaces to balance out the interactive history lessons and art museum scavenger hunts. You’ll find all our favorite seasonal events, like Parks on Tap, Philly’s one-of-a-kind traveling beer garden, and weekly traditions, like the Rittenhouse farmers market. And you’ll find advice from local parents, including chef Michael Solomonov and author Jo Piazza. In other words, you’ll find everything you need to get a true taste of this amazing city.

About the author

I’m a Philadelphia-based freelance writer covering food, travel, and culture for national and regional outlets. While I’ve written stories about the world’s first cheese conveyor belt in London (for Food & Wine) and Dolly Parton’s best tips for exploring Dollywood (for Condé Nast Traveler), I particularly love highlighting the city where I grew up and now call home. I’ve written about South Philly’s Mexican Pizza for the New York Times and about Perrystead Dairy, the Kensington-based cheesemaker behind the real Philadelphia cream cheese for Food & Wine

My husband and I moved back to Philadelphia in 2016, and we’re raising three daughters — currently ages five, seven, and 11 — in the city’s Graduate Hospital neighborhood. We spend weekends exploring Philly through bakeries and food markets, new exhibitions at our favorite museums, playgrounds and riverfront trails, pop-up events, and so much more.

How did you choose the places in the guide? Do businesses pay to be included?

No, I would never (ever!) take money in exchange for including a business, and only write about the places we really like and think you will, too.

Do I need to be online to access the guide?

Yes, either via WiFi or cellular service.
